Child inactivity across the country

New statistics have been published showing the levels of inactivity for children across the country. Described by CEO of the Sport and Recreation Alliance, Lisa Wainwright as “deeply concerning”, these figures paint a worrying picture with over one third of youngsters spending less than 30 minutes per day involved in moderate to vigorous activity.

Coming out with some of the highest rates of inactivity, local authorities such as Sheffield, Oldham and Rugby showed less than 7% of children were active for at least 60 minutes per day.

So, how do we fix this?

We understand there’s a whole host of reasons that children can be more or less active in certain areas, from local school initiatives, to investments in community sports centres – but we also know the impact just an extra 30 minutes of exercise can have on a child’s mental and physical health.

Because of this, our mission is to give every child the opportunity to get involved in gymnastics - and let’s start seeing less red!
