Beth part of the BBC team who welcomed home our Olympic heroes

It was a real privilege to be invited to the Olympic Homecoming Parade by the BBC, the atmosphere around Manchester was superb and it was great to see thousands of people turning out to welcome home their heroes.

I took special notice of the returning gymnasts; they received a lot of attention which was great to see and shows the popularity of the sport after their efforts in Rio.

Manchester itself didn’t disappoint as a host city and definitely merited its inclusion in the UK parades. After all, the north has contributed so much to Team GB’s medal haul it would have been a little unfair to just have a parade in London.

Even two months after Rio the Olympic buzz is still alive in the UK and hopefully this will continue.

If you missed any of the parade you can watch it on catch up on IPlayer, or if you and your child were inspired by Rio you can check out the gymnastic classes in your area.
