Beth runs in the Queen’s Baton Relay

As part of a 230,000km journey to The Gold Coast over 388 days, the prestigious Queen’s Baton Relay visited Liverpool over the weekend, along with some familiar faces.

For the baton’s final stop at Anfield stadium, Beth was joined by fellow Olympians, swimmer, Fran Halsall and sprint and relay athlete, Anyika Onuora. At half time during Liverpool’s first home game this season against Crystal Palace, they each ran a lap of the field in front of 54,000 fans.

After the event, Beth said, “It was fantastic to run with the baton in the Queen’s Baton Relay in Liverpool. I have fond memories from the Commonwealth Games 2002 in Manchester, being my first major multi-sport event and at the time, the closest I thought I would ever get to competing in a major sporting event in the UK.”

The relay came at a great time for the city as their bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games is at such a critical point. Maybe this time in 2022, the baton’s 388 day journey will end in Liverpool!
