Big wins for GB at the World Championships!

What a week it was for gymnastics, and all the gymnasts competing in the World Championships in Montreal! The competition, the routines, and the effort from Great Britain (GB) and other competing countries has been incredible.

The highlight for us of course is 26-year-old Olympic champion Max Whitlock making history and becoming the first British gymnast to retain a world title, scoring Gold in the pommel horse. This was his first finals competition since the Rio Olympics – so he’s done both himself and GB immensely proud!

Another big congratulations to Claudia Fragapane as well, winning Bronze in the floor final!

Our very own Olympic Medallist, Beth Tweddle has been in Montreal reporting on all of the exciting events! We caught up with her following Max's win, and she said “It was amazing to be in the arena to see Max Whitlock once again make history. He has become the first British gymnast to retain a world title. Amazing for him, his coach Scott and everyone around him who has helped him on the journey. A proud moment to be able to witness. I hope so many young gymnasts were watching him at home win that title and it has inspired them to follow in his footsteps.”

Beth also spoke to us about the Women’s all-around performance, saying “Fantastic competition for the women’s all around. It went down to the last couple of routines so kept people on the edge of their seats. Morgan was a worthy winner and continued the dominance of the USA. It was fab to see Ellie Black perform in front of her crowd and make history to take home the silver.”

It makes us super proud to be doing what we’re doing, and how we all work as a team with Beth Tweddle’s Beth Tweddle Gymnastics (formerly Total Gymnastics) to make sure every child has the opportunity to take part in gymnastics. It’s a sport that goes beyond the fundamental moves – it teaches elegance, determination, and tenacity.

If you're thinking about getting your child involved in gymnastics, there's no better time than now. We hold classes all over the North West - for children who may already know some of the basic moves, and for children who are completely starting from scracth. We welcome all into the Beth Tweddle Gymnastics (formerly Total Gymnastics) family!
